• Bill Gates no more The Richest

by  • July 4, 2007 • Bill Gates, life, microsoft, news, review • 0 Comments

Slashdot updated today that Billy Boy is no more the Richest man in the world. The position is, however, not official. The standard is Forbes list.

Billy Boy has been surpassed by Carlos Slim, the Mexican Telecom tycoon. Bill’s current estimated wealth is $ 59.2 billion, while slims estimated wealth is $67.8 billion.

    Reasons:
Two of the most obvious reasons are:

    1. A surge of 27% in the stock price of Slim’s wireless company, America Movil, in the second quarter
    2. Bill reduced his net wealth by more than $30 billion, which he put in the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. :)

    What Next?
Nothing really. To a question asked to him at the Microsoft conference last year, whether he’d be upset if someday he wasn’t the richest creature ;) , he responded, “”I wish I wasn’t. “There’s nothing good that comes out of that.”
Moreover, he’d be retiring in a year’s time and would be dedicating he’s time, energy, and money to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. I wish him luck. :)

has Bill Gates’ estimated wealth gone down? blame it on vista.

      Hehe
I played with Vista yesterday for the first time.
Quite honestly, I couldn’t find any real reason to switch to Vista. If you want looks, OS-X and Linux (with Beryl/Compiz) are comparable (even better).
And it’s about security then… what do I say :P

did you get the feeling that Vista was just XP with a killer transormation pack? I did. i right-clicked My Computer and got the same options as XP. the control panel is the same. The LAN configuration took longer to set-up. And half my MP3s dint work. Most of my videos dint work. the codecs would not install correctly. Everything is slower, more fucked up and pretty. so here’s my definition of Vista.

“Windows Vista is a slower, more fucked up and prettier version of Windows XP.”

I didn’t have the “privilege” of experiencing so much ;) , but yup that definition hits the spot.

I had a look at my friend’s system because the avi files weren’t playing (something you mentioned). It’s a little obvious that a new OS will have some trouble at the infant stage, but decision to abandon XP production would be suicidal, IMHO. :)

you’re right bro. i think XP has some more milk in its titty that must be milked out before going for the new chic on the block…eh…OS.

It wasn’t my pick but I’m stuck with Vista here (preinstalled on a Vista machine)a Vista machine made for Vista, the nightmare Scenario. I find it to be someone’s bad experiment that they did in the basement and another guy that brought in some intersting hobby they did in the basement of a better designed networking system and kinda threw it together without really caring if it was compatible or worked at all with TODAYS MODERN WORLD. You know most Operating Systems evolve over time even the bad ones that are buggy. All Vista was, was some guys ego project. Even the newer Operating Systems usually will work under compatibility mode with Older stuff. It’s sad I have to download dll files to get games to run. It’s like someone half done project. The whole operating system was made in a timewarp. (But you know how designs come around again). The thing is though, this computer was island off for Vista, the whole thing is made for it, so, pretty much the computer is scrap. Luckily I’m smart enough to know how to DOS disk analyze and stuff, good fuctions that were removed. People are so dumb, they don’t seem to understand there’s nothing new added to this thing, they actually had to start removing functions like a good disk defragment analyzer and stuff. They even removed the phone terminal which is the most ironic of all since the thing looks like it was made circa 1994 so. Obviously it was someone’s attempt to turn back time, sadly it’s sucking my time, thanks Bill Gates.

      @Adam:
Your looong comment aptly puts foward your frustration, and believe me, I’ve played with Vista for a couple of minutes and I understand that. :)
If you read my other posts, you will find that I’m not a big fan of M$ either. It’s just the steps taken by Bill Gates towards social work arena that have bowled me over. :)
